Capture of the Rhapsody music experience on the HoME platform from Hillcrest Labs. The experience used the random access Freespace pointer and the deep metadata of Rhapsody to create a music exploration and browsing application. The viewer has a rich visual experience while being able to listen to music playing in the integrated player.
SurfSpace for Blendo from Bill Rouady on Vimeo. Video capture of a walk through the SurfSpace interface. The application built in 1999 browsed the full array of content that you could consume on your TV using a standard set of remote control buttons. Using an integration of video with real-time 3D rendering and metadata from content sources, the interface was scalable for adding content from many different sources including web content and games.
First Light Clips for PBS from Bill Rouady on Vimeo. A collection of clips created for the PBS documentary, First Light, winner of a 2005 Telly Award. The clips were intended to show the information in a very simple and stylized approach to express single points of information. As an example, the original version of a clip used in the show (which is narrated in the clips) is shown at the end. The original version included much more detail and motion, but was simplified as to not detract from the information.
Slave Narrative Samples from HoME from Bill Rouady on Vimeo. An interactive slide show that used information from the Library of Congress and created a show that viewers could watch and interact with to explore the fascinating stories directly from the words of former slaves. So much information like this is available but is difficult to find or access for the general public. Making it available in an entertaining format increases the likelihood of people discovering such amazing content. Actors were used to recreate some of the voice-over. The last clip is an actual recording of the former slave.
GlobalBeat for Blendo from Bill Rouady on Vimeo. An interactive TV show that used the Blendo engine to create a global music discovery program. The viewer could sit back and watch or they could choose to interact where they could learn more about an artist or music style and even purchase the music directly. The main navigation used a globe to highlight the regions of the music and was navigable using a simple TV remote.
